Being Married is the Greatest Thing in My Life

There has been plenty of discussion on social media, especially since Emma Watson came out as “self-partnered”, about the importance of relationships — this also seemed like a good time to write this article as my wife and I are about to celebrate our 4th anniversary.

I am all for self-love and being the best version of yourself, but being able to share your experiences with someone for the rest of your life is truly special.

I am not saying that you “must” be married to be happy, if you are happy being single by all means keep doing your thing. What I am saying, is that being married has allowed me to be the best version of myself. It has allowed me and my wife to have someone to lean on in the most trying moments in our young lives.

Life partners, or whatever term you prefer, are for more than keeping you from “being lonely” or to make you “happy”. No one should be in a relationship to make their partner happy. A partner/spouse is meant to be your rock, your person to share this crazy experience we call life with, your person to push you when you are scared of what might happen in the future.

Relationships and marriage are difficult. You are going to fight and not like each other, but when you find someone you love none of that matters

Being married is trying

Being married has been a difficult experience. My wife and I have struggled from the time we moved in together to this very day. When I say struggle, I am meaning the balance of listening and being there for each other along with needing our personal space.

Not mention the household chores — just saying if I do the cooking you do the cleaning? I might be in trouble for that one. Oh well, moving on.

“So it’s not gonna be easy. It’s going to be really hard; we’re gonna have to work at this everyday, but I want to do that because I want you. I want all of you, forever, everyday. You and me… everyday.”
- Nicholas Sparks, The Notebook

No matter how difficult it is, and believe me there are times when neither of us wants to…
